A line passes through (x,y) and (h,k). If the slope of the line is m, Show that k-y = m(h-x).

Q.No. 12 of Exercise 10.1 of Class 11th
A line passes through (x,y) and (h,k). If the slope of the line is m, Show that k-y = m(h-x).

Sol :

Slope of the line joining the points A(x,y) and B(h,k)

                                  =k-y/h-x = m                {Given}
       Or,            k-y = m(h-x)               {By Cross multiplication}
